* A correct hydration is fundamental to maintain a good cardiovascular health during the holiday season and the best for this, water.

* The high temperatures, exposition to the sun and the excess of heat can produce a decrease of the arterial tension.
Even though traditionally the cardiovascular diseases have been related to cold weather and winter, “the high temperatures can also result dangerous for patients with cardiovascular pathologies”, claims Carmen de Pablo, president of the Preventive Cardiology and Cardiac Rehabilitation section of the Spanish Society of Cardiology, who alerts that in the summer months, when high temperatures persist during several days, the patients with cardiovascular pathology can suffer worsening of their disease.

The main reason behind the worsening of the diseases as consequence of the heat, “radiates in the alterations of the corporal thermoregulation, as the organism looses heat through sweat and the dilatation of the peripheral blood vessels”, says Dra. De Pablo. The excessive dilatation of vessels can produce a decrease of the arterial pressure with episodes of dizziness or transitory lost of conscience. “the cardio pats have more probabilities, as consequence of their illness and medication, of suffering a decrease in the arterial tension”, specifies.

For this reason, patients with cardiovascular pathology must extreme the preventive measures during the summer months, when temperatures reach maximums.
