Valvular surgery by mini access
The
technique of Port access allowes the repair or substitution of the
mitral valve or the aorta throught a small thoracic incision of 5-7 cm.
Through this incision the surgeon introduces specially designed
surgical intruments and the prothesis valve, and avoids so to make a
large incision through the breastbone, as it is done in conventional
surgery.
The advantages of this technique are to avoid the esternotomía, substituting a very painful and large incision through the central bone of the thorax (sternum), which that causes so many pulmonary complications in the postoperative , by a minitoracotomía, without separation of ribs. This reduces notably the pulmonary complications and the postoperative pain, obtaining a premature recovery. This advantage occurs notably in patients operated previously of coronary bypass.
